Borax acid is formed when it is acidified.
Na2B4O7 + 2HCl + 5H2O → 2NaCl + 4H3BO3
Borax is a weak acid so it is slightly hydrolyzed in solution and is alkaline in nature.
B2O72- + 7H2O →2OH- + 4H3BO3
