(2x + 3y)2 = (2x)2 + 2(2x) (3y) + (3y)2 [Using the Identity (I)]
= 4x2 + 12xy + 9y2
We may work out (2x + 3y)2 directly.
(2x + 3y)2 = (2x + 3y) (2x + 3y)
= (2x) (2x) + (2x) (3y) + (3y) (2x) + (3y) (3y)
= 4x2 + 6xy + 6 yx + 9y2 (as xy = yx)
= 4x2 + 12xy + 9y2
