The role of traditional notion of security is such that it tends to look at both perspectives involved in security, i.e. of covering of internal threats as well as external threats made to a country.
It looks at both domains.
In this case, external threats include, war threats, military threats, alliance threats and threat due to balance of power in the global world, whereas internal threats include, the ways that a country must maintain peace.
This role is highly important because this is a strategy of making sure that everything is okay to ensure peace within and outside a country. Its a matter of independence, of maintaining power and of keeping a nation and its citizens secure.
