Dr. Sadao encounters the dilemma - to live as private individual whose moral and ethical responsibility is to save a wounded person, even if he is an enemy and second as a true citizen to hand over the soldier to the police. As a doctor and as an individual his first job is to save an injured man and takes that ethical responsibility. He risks his life, fame and social status- takes him to his house and makes efforts to save him. But his sense of patriotism as well as nationalism compels him to report the matter to the police. He takes the general in confidence, allows him to secretly eleminate the prisoner. Since the General failed to keep his promise, he helps the soldier to escape. Therefore an individual has to take a decision according to the situation, keeping in mind humnity, compassion and national interest.
