Bismillah khan was a shehnai player who invented raagas beyond the range of shehnai and brought it to the classical stage. He was awarded with shehnai on red fort in August 15th 1947. He also became the most heard person in All India radio in Lucknow in 1938. He refused to start a shehnai school in U.S.A when his student asked because he was inseperable from India just like Benaras and also when Shekar Gupta asked him why he didnt moved to Pakisthan during partition,he replied that he would never leave. He died on August 21,2006 due to some continuous illness
