Ozone (O3 or trioxygen) layer present in high amounts in the stratosphere protects us from the harmful ultaviolet rays by absorbing them. UV rays can be very harmful to the skin and the eyes as it can cause serious problems like burning sensation in the cornea of the eyes and other medical issues .
