It is to simply play the guitar. When we pluck the strings each of the strings vibrate that means it is having some no. of oscillations (to and fro motion) that makes the molecules of the air in the sound hole to vibrate and produce some sound. The pitch and the frequency are determined by the thickness of the strings, the tension applied on the strings and the length of the strings. Well that is why there are different no. of strings on a guitar of different thickness and different tension applied on them.
