Autotrophic organisms (autotrophs) make their own food by converting solar energy into chemical energy through the process of photosynthesis, e.g. green plants. Autotrophs posses special pigment (chlorophyll) which help them to trap solar energy along with carbon dioxide and water to form glucose. On the other hand, heterotrophic organisms (heterotrophs) feed on other organisms for their energy needs, e.g. animals, man.
