The Napoleon Civil Code, 1804, generally known as the Napoleonic Code, has the following provisions:

  1. Simplified administration: Napoleon simplified the administrative divisions, abolished feudal system and freed peasants from serfdom and manorial dues.
  2. No birth-based privileges: Napoleon abolished all privileges based on birth and established equality before the law. He also secured the right to property.
