    Carbon dioxide can be obtained as a solid in the form of dry ice by allowing the liquified to expand rapidly.
    Unlike ordinary ice it does not melt and hence does not wet the surface on which it is kept. Thus it is called dry ice.

    Carbon dioxide gas is called dry ice because it looks like ice and by the process of sublimation in which the solid directly converted into gas and gas converted into solid without passing the liquid form. so ,that's why the carbon dioxide (co2) gas is called dry ice.
