There is one major difference between a ROM (read-only memory) and a RAM (random-access memory) chip: ROM can hold data without power and RAM cannot. Essentially, ROM is meant for permanent storage, and RAM is for temporary storage.

RAM- * RAM is volatile, which means the data will be lost when the power gets switched off . * The information stored in RAM can be easily accessed. *RAM is only used to store temporary information . * The RAM chips are costlier. * The accessing speed of RAM is faster. *Static RAM (SRAM) and Dynamic RAM(DRAM) are it's two types . ROM- * ROM is non-volatile, means the data will not be deleted during the power off. *The information stored in ROM cannot be directly accessed . *ROM is used to store permanent information. *The ROMs are less costlier than RAM. *The accessing speed of ROM is lower than RAM. *Programmable Read Only Memory (PROM), Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EPROM) and Electricity Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) are it's three types
