First convert mass percent to grams 4.07%- 4.07g 24.27%-24.27g 71.65%-71.65g Then find no. Of moles of each element M of Hydrogen=4.07/1.008=4.04 M of carbon =2.021 M of chlorine=2.021 Divide each of the mole values obtained above by the smallest no. Among them Ratio:2:1:1 forH:C:Cl Empirical formula-CH²Cl Now molecular formula Empirical formula mass : 12.01+(2*1.008)+35.453=49.98g
