Let the number to be subtracted be x
{tex}\left( {\frac{3}{4} - \frac{2}{3}} \right) - x = \frac{{ - 1}}{6}{/tex}
{tex}\left[ {\frac{{\left( {9 - 8} \right)}}{{12}}} \right] - x = \frac{{ - 1}}{6}{/tex}
{tex}\frac{1}{{12}} + \frac{1}{6} = x{/tex}
{tex}x = \frac{{(1 + 2)}}{{12}}{/tex}
{tex}x = \frac{3}{{12}}{/tex}
{tex}x = \frac{1}{4}{/tex}
