Let the number x
Given 1/2 is subtracted from x
hence the number is (x – 1/2)
When 1/2 is multiplied by (x – 1/2) the resultant number is 1/8.
⇒ (1/2)(x – 1/2) = (1/8)
⇒ (x – 1/2) = (1/4)
⇒ 4x – 2 = 1
⇒ 4x  = 3
∴ x = 3/4
