A strong acid is one that completely ionises in water to form a large amount of hydrogen ions whereas a weak acid only partially ionises in water and thus produces a small amount of hydrogen ions. HCl, H2SO4, HNO3 are strong acids. CH3COOH, H2CO3, H2SO3 are weak acids.
