In the integration of states ,Sardar Patel played an important role .Rulers of most of the states signed a document named “Instrument of Accession” and integrated to the Indian Union but in Junagarh ( earlier, princely state in Gujarat) the case was reverse and difficult as well.Muhammad Mahabat Khanji 3 (Junagarh’s ruler ) wanted to merge with Pakistan but people of Hindu religion opposed his desire of mergence with Pakistan. After all,a Plebiscite ( direct vote of all the members )was conducted as this gave govt an idea of people’s desire to join India. This plebiscite revealed people’s choice in favour of India and finally in 1948 princely state of Junagarh became a part of the Union of India.
