According to Einstein, education should mean the pursuit of knowledge based on understanding rather than being based on the spoon-feeding of facts. Facts can be looked up in books like the dates of battles, etc. Einstein wanted to know the reasons behind the wars that took place instead of the dates in which they took place. He also read books on Geology as there was hardly any science taught in his school. He read the book on Geology simply to quench his thirst for knowledge. From this we can also conclude that Einstein considered education to be a pursuit of knowledge that was not bound by any fixed curriculum.
