Crossbreeding is the breeding of two different breeds from the same species to create a new breed. This is usually done to produce offspring with superior traits. Examples of crossbreeding can be found in many different species across the world, such as dogs, cattle, and horses. Cross breeding is the process of breeding with the intention to create offspring that share the traits of both parent lineages or to produce an animal with hybrid vigour (the improved or increased function of any biological quality in a hybrid offspring). The major disadvantages are that crossbreds also have the weaknesses of the breeds from which they descend and heterosis in initial crosses declines with any backcrossing to parental breeds.
