The waves which rew Require a meterial medium for their propagation are called the mechnical waves. It can not travel through vacumes. Speed of mechnical wave are low and dependsupon the median through which they travel. Mechnical wave are due to the vibration of the particals of the median. It may be longitudinal and transverse wave. Eg- sound wave, string wave etc..

The waves which require a material medium for their propagation are called mechanical waves. The propagation of mechanical waves depend upon the elastic propertie so the medium. Hence, they are also called elastic waves.
Examples of mechanical waves :
(i) Sound waves in air.
(ii) Waves over water surface.
