Sophie belonged to a lower middle class family and she had fancy dreams of owning a boutique or becoming an actress or fashion designer. She loved to live in her fantacy world and dreamt about her meeting with Danny cassey .She even spoke about this to her brother geoff but neither Geoff nor their father believed her story ,as they knew that this must be some another day dream of her.After some days she keeps waiting by canal side for Danny cassey but he didn't arrive ,this made her feel sad.So the unrealistic dreams could lead to unhappiness .

It means that the dreams that have no meaning can never give us happiness. Like in the story sophie had unrealistic dreams that gave her unhappiness always as at the time of her unrealistic dream of meeting danny casey and imagining him coming for her for their 2 date.

As we can see that Sophie was a day dreamer girl. She belongs to a poor family but forgets the real facts of her life,instead she dreams of buying a boutique and then she planed to become a actress or a fashion designer.All this dreams are in Sophie mind only. There is no chance of her dreams becoming a reality And also she got disappointment in Danny cases. She keeps waiting for him by the canal she knew that there is no possible of him coming.. So unrealistic dreams often leads to unhappiness.
