donations means here that the portraits of the knowledged persons like here is portrait of shekspears... and other portraits which are gift or as a donation are.. civilized society photos these are just unusefull for the slum because there are just the portraits for them .

These donations can be useful to the children in no way. While these reflect the civilised world, beautiful valleys & rivers, the world of children is full of darkness with the way outside leading just towards catacomb and end in utter darkness.

Donation in the wall means that poster of Shakespeare and map must have been donated by a upper class people just to gain symapathy. And it was just a blot for those slum children.
