Mukesh was drawn towards being a motor mechanic and not a pilot because he had seen a lot of cars going around his place but had hardly seen any plane flying past and hence, he made a more realistic or practical decision to be a mechanic instead of a pilot. This tells us that even though he was a poor boy, his dreams and aspirations were real and he was a grounded person.
