Abhishek Nayal 6 years, 10 months ago

Mr. Huxter was a general dealer from over the road. He took immense pleasure in poking his nose in others’ affairs. He was one of the key witnesses who witnessed the melodrama that happened at Iping during the fair on Whit Monday in chapter ten of the novel. He had seen a stranger (Thomas Marvel) behaving suspiciously near Coach and Horses. As the suspicious stranger disappeared into the yard, Mr. Huxter, believing him to be a thief leapt round his counter and ran out into the road to catch him. As he did so, Mr. Marvel reappeared with a big bundle in a blue table-cloth in one hand, and three books tied together. Seeing Mr. Huxter approaching threateningly towards him, Mr. Marvel began to run. This confirmed Mr. Huxter’s suspicion. Bawling ‘Stop thief’, he also began running after him. He had hardly gone ten strides before his shin was caught in some mysterious fashion, and he was no longer running, but flying with through the air. Soon he found himself sprawling prostrate on the ground.  He had been hit hard by Griffin who was assisting Marvel to escape with his books.
