We know that bar magnet can produce it's own magnetic field, magnetic field is nothing but imaginary line in which it's influence can be take place. When we place a compass in which it's needle is also made up of magnet neerer to the bar magnet, due to its north and south magnetic Flux lines the needle is get deflected.
