  1. Soil is a vital part of the natural environment. It is just as important as  plants, animals, rocks, landforms,  and rivers.
  2. It influences the distribution of plant species and provides a habitat for a wide range of organisms.
  3. Soil contains food, water and air that is needed by plants to grow. The healthier the soil, the more nutrients a plant can soak up. The healthier the plant, the better it is for humans and animals to eat.
