Helen was a lively,self asserted and curious child. She fell ill when she was 19 months old. The illness enveloped her and she turned blind and hearing impaired. The world outside became dark and silend. But she never let her disabilities come in the path of her progressive life. Her mother,Kates Adam always tried to give her a sense of responsibility and importance. She taught her to arrange clean cloths,make crude signs, greet the guests and feel all the objects around her,much before Miss Sullivan was appointed. After the arrival of Miss Sullivan,her life changed completely. She began to love every creature and every object in the world of nature. Inspite of her disabilities she learned to climb trees. She developed an optimistic approach towards life.
