Linguistic chauvinism refers to the dominance or superiority of one language over the other. The story 'The Last Lesson' draws significance to the idea of patriotism by forcing thier culture and in this case their language over others. When the germans take over France they not only suppress the identity of the country but also the identity of the french speaking people in order to prove the superiority of german language over the french language.
