Lophodont teeth are found in most of the herbivorous those grind their food thoroughly.
They are easily identified by the pattern of ridges or lophs of enamel interconnecting the cusps on the crown. Lophodont molars have hard and elongated enamel ridges called lophs. These are either oriented along or perpendicular to the dental row.
These patterns of loph can vary from simple ring like structures such as in molar Rat to complex arrangement of series of ridges and cross ridges. E. g. Horse.
Extreme form of this lophodonty is found in elephant.
