Forests are called the green lungs of nature as they release oxygen during the process of photosynthesis. This oxygen is used up by animals including man for respiration. Thus forests maintain balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

A forest has different types of plants like herbs, shrubs and trees. It also has many type of tall grasses, canes, creepers and climbers.

Forests have perennial trees of Sal, Sheesham, Teak, Banyan, Neem, Peepal, Bamboo, etc.

A forest has annual, biennial and perennial plants. Herbs are mostly annuals with a life span of one year. Biennials have a life span of two years whereas perennials can survive for several years. These include shrubs and trees.
