When oxygen and water ( water vapour ) mixe with iron then it rust . Iron (Fe)+Oxygen(O2, from air) + water (H2O )= Rust (iron ixide Fe2O2)

iron rust because it is found in nature .it is natural and all natural thing is biodegradable . so,it is rust.
