Socialist party was formed in 1935 and operated from within the congress, therefore it was known as congress socialist party. But in 1948 congrrss amended its constituition to prevent its members from having dual party membership. So it was forced to form a new party in 1948; socialist party. Its emphasised on democratic socialism in its ideology
