  • Clinical Thermometer: A clinical thermometer consists of a long narrow uniform glass tube. It has a bulb at one end. This bulb contains mercury. Outside the bulb a small shining thread of mercury can be seen.Reading a thermometer: The temperature difference indicated between the two bigger marks should be noted and note down the number of divisions between these marks.
  • Laboratory thermometer: The laboratory thermometer is used for measuring the temperature in science laboratory. This thermometer is made up of a long tube having a thin bore in it. The range of a laboratory thermometer is generally from – 10 degree Celsius to 110 degree Celsius. The laboratory thermometer should be held vertically while measuring temperature. The thermometer bulb should be surrounded from all sides by the substance whose temperature is to be measured and the level of mercury should be kept along the line of sight.
