A farmer moves along the boundary of a square field of side 10m in 40 sec. What will be magnitude of the displacement of the farmer at the end of 2 min 20 sec from his initial position?

So, sides of a square are 10m,10m,10m,10m 2min 20sec = 2×60+20 =140sec Now 140 can be written as 40+40+40+20 We are given that he covered the whole field in 40 sec. So, 3 times he moved along the field in 120 sec. In remaining 20sec he moved half of the field. i.e., In a square ABCD we have to draw a diagonal AC. Now, AC=root of AB+BC =root of 10×10+10×10 =root of 100+100 =root of 200 =14.14m
