    Because it surrounds the earth just like a blanket

    • The layers of the atmosphere help protect the earth, like a blanket.
    • The ozone layer protects the Earth from dangerous UV rays from the sun
    • The atmosphere prevents meteors from striking the Earth.
    • The atmosphere also keeps what helps us stay alive inside of the Earth, for example oxygen.
    • The greenhouse gases in the atmosphere absorb the sun's heat, radiated from the surface of the earth, and keep the planet warm enough for life.
