Antibiotics is a biochemical compound effective against bacteria because they block the bacterial process of building cell wall that provide protection to the bacteria and hence it dies. But in the case of viral infection, it is caused due to virus. In the case of virus antibodies donot work because virus have few chemical pathway of their own. Indead when they enter our cell they use our machineris for their life process.

Antibiotics are not effective for viral diseases because they don't kill viruses as the working and machinery of bacteria and viruses are different. Bacteria are generally simpler than the viruses.
