Somaclones are the genetically identical plants produced by using the somatic cells or the vegetative parts of the plants through the tissue culture technique. Somaclones are the plants that are produced through tissue culture and are genetically identical to the parent plant from which they are produced and cultured. Somaclones are produced through micro-propagation or tissue culture. They are genetically identical to the parent plant, e.g., apple, tomato or banana. Somatic hybrids: These are produced by fusion of protoplast of two different plants. They are genetically dissimilar e.g., Pomato (hybrid of potato and tomato).
