AIDS is the syndrome caused by Human Immunodeficiency virus. This is a virus that attacks the human immune system. A person infected with the virus is said to be HIV positive. HIV remains in the body damaging the immune system and the person remains infectious and is able to spread the virus to others. Over time, as HIV damages the immune and weakens it, one may acquire various illnesses due to the damage done by the virus.
The person infected by this virus is prone to all sorts of diseases as his immune system is weakened and he does not have any resistance against any diseases. Hence he is affected by a group of diseases hence it is called as syndrome.
