In a modle of a ship. The most is 9cm high while most of the actual ship is 12cm high. If the length is 28m, how long is the model ship?

Let the length of the model ship be x m and the height of the mast be y cm.
We form a table as shown below :

More the length of the ship, more would be the length of its mast. Hence, this is a case of direct proportion. That is,
{tex}\frac{{{x_1}}}{{{y_1}}} = \frac{{{x_2}}}{{{y_2}}}{/tex}
{tex}\therefore{/tex} {tex}\frac{{28}}{{12}} = \frac{x}{9}{/tex}
{tex}\therefore{/tex} 12x = 28 × 9
{tex}x = \frac{{12 \times 9}}{{12}}{/tex}
{tex}\therefore{/tex} x = 21
Hence, the length of the model ship is 21 m.
