    1) IT act as a blanket and keep the average temperature of the earth fairly study by preventing sudden increase in temperature during the day and slowing down the escape of heat into outer space during the night. 2) it contain all the gases which are essential for sustaining life on the earth. 3) Ozone Layer present in the atmosphere prevent harmful UV rays from reaching the earth. 4) winds are generated due to movement of air present in the atmosphere and rainfall pattern are decided by these winds. 5) water cycle is not possible without atmosphere.
