This poem tells us that time is the most powerful thing in the world. It is referred as 'sluttish' in the context of the poem. Not even the monuments which are gold plated, can survive for long. Secondly, the poem talks about the immortality of the poem. The poet says that this poem will survive until the last day of posterity.
