Cu+ ion can be both, an oxidizing and reducing agent. It is reducing agent towards stronger oxidants that Cu+ ions are by themselves (i.e. it reduced H2O2, KMnO4 as they are much more powerful oxidants then Cu+ ion) and it is an oxidizing reagent toward strong reducing compounds/elements such as Na. Zn, N2H4.
