If we raise a body of mass"m"to a height "h" and during this a force of acceleration due to gravity is acting in opposite direction of the motion of the body.. Now we know that work done=force*distance........(1) And we also know that face=Mass*acceleration =m*g...........(2) And here perpendicular distance=h..........…..............,....(3) From (1) ,(2) and (3): Work done=force*distance =m*g*h And we also know that work done=energy consumed or energy used up. And we also know that energy consumed by a body=energy gained by another body. ,(if work is done by first body on another second body) Therefore, energy=m*g*h.. Here the body is raised therefore here energy will be gravitational potential energy... So. Potential energy=m*g*h Note: g=acceleration due to gravity . While G=gravitational constant
