Why sound needs material medium to travel.Why it cant propogate without a material medium as light does.

As sound is produced due to vibrations...and vibrations take place within the particles...and particles lie within a medium... So is there will be no medium so there will be no particle and if there will be no particles there will be no vibrations and if there will be no vibrations no sound will be produced therefore sound needs a medium to travel whereas light is independent to travel without particles so I do not need any medium to propagate....
