Why are some elements chemically inert
  • 1 answers

Elements react to attain stability by completing octet of electrons, for which they lose, gain or share electrons depending upon their valency.

However some elements like inert gases have a completely filled valence orbital. (e.g. Ne = 2,8), and hence are stable and do no need to lose/gain or share electrons, thus making them unreactive
