The rate of change of velocity is called Acceleration. By this we mean to say that if a body changes its velocity for eg. from 0 m/s to 6m/s in a given interval of 2 seconds , then the rate of change of velocity or the acceleration = v - u ÷ t i.e 6 - 0 ÷ 2 = 3m/s^2
