The two boys, Nicola and Jacopo hated Germans b'coz Germans have destroyed their happy family. In the war, they lost their father and mother. And now no one was there to look after them.

AS THE TWO BOYS STATE WAS BEING RULED BY THE GERMANS. THE GERMANS HAD BOMBED THEIR VILLAGE. AND THROWN THESE TWO BOYS AND THEIR SISTER LUCIA ON THE STREETS . THEIR FATHER WAS KILLED IN WAR. THEY SUFFERED DUE TO STARVATION. THIS THESE TWO BOYS STARTED HATING THE GERMANS.

Germans ruined their family.the war had threw the 3 children on street.they somehow manage to survive and lived amidst the rouble.So nicola and jacopa grew hatred towards German. When the resistance movement was started they were among the first to join it.Thus,they express their hatred towards German.
