Chipko movement literally means 'Hug the trees' movement. This mvmt began in two or three villages of uttarakhand . There was a dispute between the local villagers and a logging contractor who had been allowed to cut the trees in a forest close to the village. The villagers protested against the logging contractor and the govt. Chipko mvmt is seen not only as a mvmt to save environment but also as a feminist mvmt.
