It was discarded because, he could not account for the stability of atom exactly. He proposed that the electrons are present in the atom just like the seeds of a watermelon or just like the dry fruits are distributed in a Christmas pudding. There was no order and even worse, the positive counterpart of these electrons was considered as the red edible mass of the watermelon(protons were not discovered that time). This theory couldn’t account for the overall stability of atom due to its lack of systematic approach.
