    • The prism splits the incident white light into a band of colours called spectrum.
    • The angle between its two lateral faces is called the angle of the prism.
    • The peculiar shape of the prism makes the emergent ray bend at an angle to the direction of the incident ray. This angle is called the angle of deviation.
    • The band of seven colours formed on a white screen, when a beam of light is passed through a glass prism, is called spectrum of white light.
    • The splitting up of white light into seven colours on passing through a transparent medium like a glass prism is called dispersion of light.
