Rajkumar Shukla the wanted Gandhiji to take up the cause of the poor peasants in Champaran. Shukla first met Gandhiji at Lucknow but Gandhiji had other appointments , then Shukla followed Gandhiji to the Ashram. Finally, he went to Calcutta. Gandhiji was impressed by Shukla's devotion and tenacity. As a result, they had decided to go to Champaran so that the problem can be solved as soon as possible.
